Adult Language Partners

Adult Language Partners is a program run out of IRCOM House that pairs up English speakers with newcomers who would like to improve their conversational English. Pairs meet one-on-one for one hour per week over a period of three months. The time of the meetings is determined by the schedules of both the volunteer and the newcomer. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in meeting new people and learning about a different culture.

ALP Volunteer duties include

  • Making conversation with your language partner on topics of interest (i.e.: the weather, family, Canada, travelling, Winnipeg, etc.)
  • Speaking clearly, slowly and loudly to ensure partner understands
  • Correcting errors/mistakes in a friendly, encouraging manner
  • Supporting your partners learning by encouraging them to speak English
  • Adhering to program rules and regulations
