In 2011 IALW was celebrated the week of April 2nd through 9th.
This year Diane McGifford, Minister of Advanced Education and Literacy, Peter Bjornson, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade and Jennifer Howard, Minister of Labour and Immigration for the Province of Manitoba have proclaimed the week of April 2-9th, 2011 as “Adult Learner’s Week” in Manitoba.
IALW was launched by UNESCO in 2000. The original goals of IALW were to give adult learners the chance to express themselves, voice their challenges, and celebrate their own success stories. IALW has been celebrated in Canada since 2002.

IRCOM has celebrated IALW since 2008 some highlights of activities have been:
2008 – Guest Speaker, author Kathy Knowles, founder of the OSU Children’s Library Fund.
2009 – Family Learning Olympics, etc.
2010 – Reading Round Robin, Quilt Making, Mobile Library, Manitoba Museum, Family Learning Olympics, Community Celebration Lunch
In 2011 IRCOM partnered with Urban Circle Training Centre for a series of cross cultural learning days.
Urban Circle hosted IRCOM learners on Monday April 4th for a tour, smudge and sharing circle.
On Wednesday NLI Students toured the Manitoba Museum to learn more about our province’s history.
Friday April 8th IRCOM will hosted the Urban Circle students at a community feast as a celebration of the learning we shared over the course of the week.
